The Longest Day

Regular MSL writer Anthony Wood wrote this article in 2019. In September 2021, he was involved in an accident, and killed on his bike. Our condolences go out to his family, and we reproduce the story here to honour Anthony’s memory.

Nordkapp, at the top of Norway, has increasingly become a destination for adventurous bikers. Lying inside the Arctic Circle, it’s the most northerly point in Europe, and in June 2019 I had a 14-day window to do it in. I set myself two goals: to reach Nordkapp on the longest day and ride the last 1000 miles in less than 24 hours, all of them in daylight.
