New base gaskets courtesy of Alasdair Cowan of YDS Parts got the show on the road. Everyone has their own particular MO for seating these card gaskets but I’m happy with giving them a light greasing on both surfaces. If there’s no oilways and the like going through them, I can see no legitimate reason to apply any sealing compounds. The system’s worked for me for decades so it must be viable, surely?
