1 Okoume isn’t a very well-known guitar timber…
Okoume is a large tree grown in west Central Africa, mainly Gabon, where its strength and light weight make it ideal for building canoes, apparently. It’s now finding favour with guitar makers such as Music Man, Nik Huber and Eastman. It looks rather like mahogany when finished but is not a related species.
2 What’s the deal with offset bodies?
‘Offsets’ are highly regarded by players and manufacturers alike; witness Fano, PJD, PRS’s Vela and, of course, those famous Fender Jaguars and Jazzmasters that started it all. Their shifted centre of gravity tends to prevent headstock heaviness when strapped on. Our Juliet models are only mildly offset but are ergonomically great to play, whether sitting or standing.
3 What’s the Schaller Megaswitch?
