s spring turns into summer, we celebrate the return of mangoes to our markets. Fresh mangoes were almost unknown in southern Australia when I was a child. They were more likely to be found, somewhat over-sweetened, in tins. Their uncompromising exotic flavour was not to everybody’s taste. In my family, one aunty was often remarked upon for “liking mangoes”; the black sheep of the family.
