Subtlety is a tricky thing to pull off when you’re building a radically modified custom car — particularly if you’ve given it a shouty race engine and painted the thing bright blue. But despite these klaxon calls to the savvy and uninitiated alike, subtlety is — against all the odds — something that Mike Wilson has achieved with remarkable panache here. Viewed in isolation, this appears at first glance simply to be a well-cared-for 100E Popular. But if he were to park it next to a stock example, you’d be gobsmacked at the difference between the two. There’s a lifetime of passion for Fords behind the project, honing and refining his skills over the decades and becoming more and more creative, bringing his offbeat ideas to fruition with enviable flair.
“I have always run Fords, and have always modified them,” Mikeyears up to 2004. I’m a bit of a hoarder, and have lots of tuning and competition parts stashed away!”
