Whatever motorhome we own, large or small, low or highvalue, security is something we all need to consider. However, there are different aspects to be considered depending on circumstances.
The fundamental issue is certainly theft of the Van, especially with the current rise in interest in motorhoming and the lack of availability of models for sale. But preventing break-ins and theft of possessions is also important.
There’s no silver bullet to solve all aspects of security so here we look at a range of options to enable you to select an appropriate level of security.
First, consider what the appropriate level of security is when your Van is in storage and when out and about, whether on a campsite, aire or just parked in a car park. Whatever you think appropriate, insurance companies may insist on the use of certain security devices and/or will incentivise you to fit extra security by offering discounts off your annual bill.
ELECTRONIC AND MECHANICAL
It’s easy to think your ’van is invincible to thieves when you’ve paid a chunk of money and an annual fee for the latest electronic security devices so mechanical ones may seem an anachronism. However, a lot of vehicle theft is due to thieves catching up with electronic security technology where a vehicle is electronically locked and immobilised remotely. Using readily available electronic gadgetry, it’s possible to clone key fobs by intercepting the signal when
