A MISTAKEN idea, still touted occasionally, is that clipping the wings will keep a parrot grounded and safe. Nope. A parrot outside with clipped wings is at the mercy of gusts of wind, has no control over his movements in the air and is at risk from predators, humans, roads and areas of water. Familiarising a parrot with your local area can prevent it from becoming lost. A parrot fitted with a harness will enjoy the experience of the local environment with its unique sight and sounds, which will reap benefits for owner and bird. Pet rucksacks, harnesses or travel crates are ideal. Hopefully, should a bird then find itself outside, it won't be such a traumatic experience.
A well-trained flighted bird is more able to integrate into human homelife.
