HAVE A HUG
‘Hugging has many benefits for our wellbeing,’ says Dr Rachel Chin, a clinical psychologist from the Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. ‘It triggers the release of the hormone oxytocin, associated with increased feelings of relaxation and security.’ No one to hug? Cuddle a pillow or your pet – both will prompt a flood of oxytocin, says Dr Chin. ‘Smiling, making eye contact and warm verbal expressions, can have similar benefits.’
We all have them – the friends who smile through whatever life throws their way.
