Arriving for another night shift at the vets, I was greeted by the usual barks and mews.
It was September 2020, and working as a veterinary nurse, I saw all sorts of different furry and feathered patients.
I got to work – then in the middle of the shift, a police officer came in. ‘We’ve found a kitten, badly burnt,’ he said.
I’d looked after animals with burns before – usually family pets with minor scalds.
But when I saw this kitten, I gasped.
It was much worse than anything I’d ever seen before.
