When the All Blacks pack had finished its warm up at Ellis Park, Jason Ryan called them into a huddle.

There were 61,519 people crammed into the famous rugby ground in Johannesburg, the scene of many epic contests between the All Blacks and Springboks.

That day the crowd had the scent of blood in their nostrils as the All Blacks seemed a side on the verge of collapse.

They had lost the series to Ireland in New Zealand and two coaches - Brad Mooar and John Plumtree - were sacked in the aftermath.
