THORN BLOSSOMING AS A COACH

Coaching in New Zealand may well become part of Brad Thorn’s remarkable rugby adventure yet don’t even try to force him into a timeline.

There’s never been a mould of predictability to shackle Thorn and that’s not changing just because he’s a head coach rather than one of the code’s most decorated players.

The All Blacks, the Crusaders, NZ rugby and what they stand for will always flow thick through the veins of the 2011 Rugby World Cup champion.

At 46, Thorn is still one of rugby’s most fascinating interviews because he evades them with a Christian Cullen sidestep when he can.

“Down the track, gee, I might like to go to NZ and take the challenge of coaching over there or elsewhere overseas,” Thorn said in a rare sit-down interview in Brisbane.

“But, you know, I’m really entrenched in Queensland, committed here at the Reds and just want this place to do really well.
