I must confess to staying well away from poultry auctions; it’s too easy to get a rush of blood to the head and throw caution away.

Half the fun of getting chooks is working out which breed(s) will best suit your needs. There’s a wide range to choose from, all unique looking and each with specific traits.

One trait we all need to seriously consider is heat tolerance. It can be heartbreaking losing birds during a heatwave because they’re poorly suited to summer conditions.
