    Settling down in the dorm, I ignored the shrieks in the night as I drifted to sleep. Even at age nine, I knew life at Centrepoint – a commune promising a utopian life – was different.

    There were communal showers, no toilet doors and free love everywhere. But for me and my siblings Angie, then 15, Karlos, 14, and Bonnie, 11, it was home.
