In cardiomyopathy, heart muscles become stretched, thickened or stiff, affecting the heart’s ability to pump blood around the body. The abnormality isn’t directly caused by blocked coronary arteries, high blood pressure, valvular disease or congenital heart disease, but usually is genetically inherited. There are several types:
Dilated cardiomyopathy – heart muscle walls become stretched, thin and unable to contract
