that's life!

Welcome

hen I started as editor of, it had been a long time since I’d experienced the joy of puzzles. One of my happiest childhood memories was sittingpuzzles, perhaps helping their mum or grandparent find the treasure chest. I do it myself every week. Though I often need to ask our art director, Darren, where he’s hidden it. And when he tells me, and I see it, I wonder how on earth I missed it! Our chief copy editor, Jude, and I enjoy comparing notes on how we worked out the picture puzzle – one of my favourites – and our lovely puzzle eds Dan and Simon are used to my asking them to reveal an answer I’m stuck on. Puzzle Central is such a fun part of our magazine and we’re thrilled this week that it’s back to being a proper pull-out section, with an expanded entry coupon. Do let me, or Dan and Simon, know your thoughts. We love to hear from you! I’m off on hols for a few weeks, so will leave you in the very capable hands of deputy ed Sarah Firth. Happy puzzling, and see you when I’m back!
