AS THE PROCESSION ARRIVES IN WINDSOR THE LONG WALK MOURNERS — AND HER MAJESTY’S PETS — LINE THE SPECTACULAR ROUTE BACK TO THE CASTLE

Some of the most poignant scenes of this momentous day were witnessed on the Queen’s final journey to her resting place at Windsor, as crowds 40 deep lined the Long Walk.

Hundreds of bouquets of flowers were thrown on to the state hearse as the procession slowly made its way along the historic tree-lined avenue so that Her Majesty’s loyal subjects could bid her one last farewell.

Even her beloved animals turned out. The Queen’s corgis Sandy and Muick were brought out on leads
