IT’S the greatest sporting spectacle on Earth, a month-long feast of football when the finest players on the planet compete for the honour of holding aloft the most-prized trophy of them all.

Fans are already counting the days until the 22nd Fifa World Cup kicks off in Qatar on 21 November, hoping for a ray of sunshine to flood a year darkened by trouble and strife.

But preparations for the tournament haven’t been without drama. We look at the good, the bad and ugly of an event already mired in controversy.
