IT’S all anyone can talk about these days – at the gym, around the braai, in the office, on the radio.
Loadshedding has also inspired hundreds of memes, plenty of puns and dozens of jokes. Because if there’s one thing South Africans know how to do, it’s to look for a little light in times of darkness.
But in truth there’s nothing to laugh about: Eskom’s inability to keep the power on has brought the country to its knees.
Where will it all end? What can be done? Is Eskom doing anything right?
We put a set of burning questions to the experts.

On a scale of one to 10, where would you put Eskom?
Low down. It’s in deep trouble. There’s a lot of unhappiness among employees at operational level, which we saw with the recent strike.
There are also big financial problems – Eskom is loaded with debt and is owed hundreds of millions from municipalities.
From a technical point of view, most of the power stations are old and unreliable.
