DREAM WORLDS
“It’s like Downton Abbey, but with magic,” is how author Neil Gaiman expects those unfamiliar with his comic book series to find the first episode of the Netflix adaptation of THE SANDMAN.
“Then you’ll be wondering, ‘What the hell is this?’ by episode two, when you’re meeting Gregory the Gargoyle in The Dreaming,” he told Empire magazine.
The titular Sandman is one of the seven siblings known as the Endless, “the anthropomorphic embodiments of powerful natural forces” who predate gods. They each rule over a different realm of existence, and while they’re powerful, they aren’t invulnerable, all-knowing or free from the rules of the universe, the author explains.
The Sandman aka the Master of Dreams () is the one who gives shape to humanity’s fears and fantasies.
