CLIMATE change continues to contribute to devastating droughts and water shortages on continents around the globe. Drought has threatened supplies in several countries in Africa, Asia, North America and Europe.
These countries have experienced long periods of lower-than-average rainfall and scorching temperatures, which have had a disastrous effect on farming and food production. The dry conditions have killed millions of livestock, destroyed crops and forced people from their homes in search of food and water. We take a closer look.
AFRICA
Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia are going through their worst drought in 40 years – and another poor rainy season is now highly likely. The area, known as the Horn of Africa, has over the past few years had very little rain during its rainy seasons.
