mash 2 cloves and halve one 2-in. piece lengthwise. Add to small saucepan along with 1 cup , 1¾ cups and ¼ tsp and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, 15 min. Remove from heat and let sit 5 min. Discard ginger and garlic and fluff rice with fork.
