Ode to THE BIG RIVER

Full disclosure, I’m old(er), and relatively new to foiling – not quite four years in. I figure I must have quit foiling, or at least threatened to, dozens of times in the first two years. I didn’t start behind a boat, or with an e-foil, or even initially with a wing. I started downwinding with a paddle. I’ve had people tell me they’re impressed by the way that I learned. They’re either being polite or don’t realize that starting that way was painful and unwise. In my defense, e-foils were not accessible and foiling behind a boat wasn’t really a thing, at least not in the Columbia River Gorge…
