Home on the hill

SHELLEY AND TYRONE KENNEDY had 43 hectares to choose from when building their tree-change home. They opted for the most cantankerous location on their property – the highest, windiest, coldest position, but the spot with the most spectacular views. That was in 2019, a year after they bought a neglected farm near Denmark, 420 kilometres south-east of Perth in Western Australia.

“The farm was very run-down, with only a shed on it. There was no power, water or sewerage. The pasture was poor and so was the boundary fencing,” says Shelley, 35, a women’s health physiotherapist.
