THE VICARELLO CUPS

n addition to the four inscribed cups, there were 1400 coins, 400 kg of rough bronze and 34 vessels (3 gold, 25 silver, and 6 bronze), including eight others with inscriptions, a variety of other metal objects, and two marble busts: one of Apollo, the other of Asclepius. The deposit was probably made in the fourth century AD, the date of the latest coins. The four cylindrical inscribed cups are, however, the most intriguing of the finds.
