I met Sarah Edwards at the reception of Okonjima Plains Camp and we found a scenic spot to have breakfast overlooking the waterhole. Originally from Cheshire, England, she gained field experience on a ground squirrel project in Namibia, before doing a Masters in Animal Behaviour. Her PhD led her to Dr Ingrid Wiesel in Lüderitz and her introduction to brown hyenas; following which, her post-doc involved research into cheetahs and servals. In 2018, she was offered a job by AfriCat and has been at Okonjima Nature Reserve since.
Sarah’s purpose here is to oversee research into brown hyenas, pangolins and aardvarks, with a focus on trying to understand their ecology in a fenced reserve. The project is sponsored by the Namibian Wildlife Conservative Trust, VARTA Batteries, the
