The February birth flowers are violets, a symbol of truth and modesty and irises flowers that represent courage, faith and wisdom. Zodiac signs: Aquarians (Jan 21 – Feb 18) are assertive, analytical and great humanitarians while Pisces (Feb 19 - Mar 20) are mystical, romantic and often drawn to the arts in many ways.
2 Groundhog DAY
If the groundhog emerges from its burrow, sees its shadow and then returns, winter will last for another six weeks. If it doesn’t see its shadow, winter will be shorter. This is not a perfect science, in fact, Canadian meteorological data prove that the groundhogs’ success rate is quite low. Meteorological data from 13 Canadian cities over the past 30 to 40 years indicate the groundhogs’ predictions were correct only 37% of the time.
The most prognosticating groundhogs of Canada are:
• Shubenacadie Sam and Two Rivers Tunnel in Nova Scotia
• Fred la Marmotte in Quebec
• Wiarton Willie in Ontario
• Manitoba Merv (he borderline makes this list because he’s a puppet).

Feed the Birds Day brings attention to the extra help birds need right before spring when their winter stores of food start running out. See pages 142 – 143 for the top seeds for each bird.

Soup is the perfect winter meal, a brilliant solution for using up a lot of the food in your fridge. Leftover vegetables make great soups. Blend them with a cup of coconut milk, some stock, fresh herbs and a little salt and pepper. From chicken noodle soup and chicken.
