Whether you or a loved one are heading to university this September, or even just back to school, one constant remains: if you’re going to work hard, you need to have the right tools to help you do it. It’s lucky, then, that PC Pro has been busy over the summer, scouting out the best student deals and discounts to help that student loan go a little bit further.
It’s worth pointing out at this early stage that you don’t have to be doing a degree to qualify for these big savings, either. Children in full-time education and adults in higher or further education can often qualify for education discounts, not to mention teachers. Always check the terms of deals carefully, but you may be surprised at who qualifies for these decent discounts.
SOFTWARE AND SERVICES
When it comes to software, the major software companies have one concern and one concern only: getting students hooked. They’re essentially following the old model of banks offering gifts to kids opening current accounts, knowing that when the students enter the world of work or want a mortgage, they’ll know where to come.
So what apps should students take advantage of?
Microsoft365
Microsoft is very opaque about its student discounts, but if your school/college/uni has a specific agreement with Microsoft you may get Office 365 for free – something that would typically cost £60. Check with your establishment to see if you’re eligible for the free suite.
The package incorporates basically every Microsoft productivity app, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, OneDrive and Teams. You can even play with Publisher if you.
