Back in the late-’70s/early-’80s, Eddie had the opportunity while in his mid-/late-teens to help at Pendon Model Railway Museum. The Museum was still in its infancy with no upstairs, just steel beams and a bit of floor, but the downstairs had the well-known ‘Dartmoor Scene’ and the ‘Madder Valley’ layout.

Fortunately, as he used to go as a team from Bristol to run the Museum on the first Sunday of the month, it wasn’t long before he was running and doing the commentary for the Dartmoor layout, a role he thoroughly enjoyed. He also had access to some of the great modellers of their time, like Roye England and Guy Williams, both of whom were very helpful and enthusiastic and soon got me to help with building trees and wagons. This changed his perspective on model railways, becoming more interested in construction and how the railway fitted
