THERE’S no escaping it: electric cars are inherently more expensive to buy than their petrol and diesel counterparts, thanks in large part to the high cost of producing their battery packs. Manufacturers have to spend more money to make these, and that has to be passed on to the consumer. Unhelpfully, plug-in car grants in the UK that formerly softened the blow are now all but gone.
Thankfully, we’re now far enough into the electric revolution that there’s a growing population of great EVs on the second-hand market that have depreciated to the point where they’re suitable for a greater range of wallets.
