Varying levels of success with peat-free
I READ with interest Val Bourne’s article, ‘Compost Woes’ (AG, 30 July). Like Val, I have been trying to become peat-free for a couple of years, but find it difficult, due to the shortage of quality peat-free products on the market at local garden centres and supermarkets.
I have resorted to making my own seed by HRH The Prince of Wales and Stephanie Donaldson, but this has been restricted by the volume of leaf mould I am able to produce. However, I have been impressed with the results obtained from this, with seedlings regularly developing excellent root systems.
