RM Sotheby’s, Amelia Island
RM Sotheby’s held its 23rd annual Amelia Island sale on Saturday, March 5, which simultaneously concluded the gavel action for the duration of the 2022 automotive festival on the picturesque North Florida island. As in years past, the auction took place at the Ritz-Carlton, just a short walk from The Amelia show field that also hosted a portion of Saturday’s Cars & Community concours prelude (RADWood and Concours d’Lemons were also part of the day’s festivities across from the Ritz-Carlton’s main entrance). In short, there was a lot going on in a small patch of Florida real estate, and much of the crowd joined bidders and media as the standing-room-only sale got underway.
As had been the case in January, bidding was hot for each of the 95 lots (in total) up for grabs. To start, a total of 11 lots exceeded $1 million in sales during the one-day event, six of which surpassed $2 million. And while no new auction records were set, several cars easily met or far exceeded expectations.
