SEIZE THE DAY
LIFE DOESN’T WAIT AROUND – you need to grab opportunities when they arise. This absolutely applies to Scottish winter conditions. Before you know it, the snow has turned to slush, or the weather has turned rubbish. Living all the way down in Leicester certainly doesn’t make it any easier for me to get north of the border, either.
So, when March 2022 rolled around, I’d already assumed that my winter season was over. That was, until I received a late-night text message from David Lintern: “Appreciate this is crazy short notice, but what are chances of you getting up here for a Thursday AM start? 2 days in the Cairngorms.” After a quick glance at my calendar, I was digging my crampons back out again for one more outing.
A nine-hour drive brought me to the village of Kingussie in darkness, where David and his family welcomed me into their home. He fired up the log burner in the living room, laid out an OS map, and we began hatching a plan for the following two days.
