■ Have a good test meter to hand when working on electrics as it can give a lot of information.
■ It is helpful to have a circuit diagram of the tractor on which you are working.
■ If lengthening or replacing wires in a circuit, always use wire of the same or higher capacity.
Although I had the tractor running, and it sounds sweet with no smoke, it left a little to be desired, having to short out the contacts on the solenoid every time a start was attempted. Turning the dash panel over to reveal the wiring uncovered what only I can describe as a dog’s breakfast, with broken and disconnected wires and discovered that the clutch safety switch had been bypassed.
