HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES

Half-square Triangles are one of the most used basics of quilting and they also happen to be one of Paula’s favourites! Half-square Triangles (also known as HSTs) are incredibly versatile units that can come together to create a huge variety of different blocks and shapes. There are a few different ways of making them that can speed up the process and, importantly, reduce fabric usage. Paula will walk you through the three main methods and show you how to trim to size.

TRIMMING HST UNITS

Paula prefers to make her HSTs slightly larger than required, and then trim them down to size. Some people prefer to use methods that don't involve trimming, but just a little wobble when sewing the ¼in seam means the HSTs may not all end up exactly the same size. Using the trim down methods, you can ensure all units are exactly the same, making your quilt blocks piece together
