Coming clean

Cleansing is potentially the most challenging skincare step for your skin. You do it so often, it can rearrange or even remove your barrier lipids, and there’s lots of rubbing (potential exfoliation and agitation). That’s not to say don’t do it – you definitely should – but choose the gentlest cleanser you possibly can for your skin’s needs. Mild cleansing can help reduce the symptoms of eczema, acne and rosacea. If your skin is prone to hyperpigmentation related to inflammation, cleansing gently and keeping the barrier intact can also help prevent further dark spots.

Your skin has a natural film of sweat and oil that traps and accumulates a build-up of dust, air pollution, smoke and whatever else is in the air, on top of anything you’ve applied that day.
