Found dotted throughout woodlands and hedgerows, wild crab apple trees (Malus sylvestris, meaning ‘of the woods’) light up the countryside year-round. In winter, the stark, woody skeleton is often host to mistletoe; in spring, soft pink blossoms bloom; and in autumn, jewel-like fruits hang in abundance, with the foliage turning deep shades of orange, red and yellow.
