INDIANAPOLIS IS SECOND ONLY to Mecum’s massive Kissimmee sale in terms of the number of cars that cross the block. The mid-May proceedings also fall into a perfect in-between spot on the calendar. It’s well after the big Florida event and Arizona Auction week, but far enough ahead of the Monterey sales in August. Size and timing alone would make the Indy auction notable, but Mecum tends to pull out all the stops for what is, essentially, its home event.
That meant a docket stacked with noteworthy collections and blue-chip muscle cars, which brought in a total of $126.5 million over nine days of action, selling 81 percent of all 2,504 vehicular lots and eclipsing the 2021 result by $19.5 million.
