Our motorhome
We owned a number of caravans before buying our first motorhome at a show about 15 years ago. Since then, we have owned a number of others before finally having to downsize in vehicle weight to 3,500kg due to driving licence weight restrictions.
In 2016, our pride and joy was a new Hymer A-class with twin beds in the back. However, in June 2017, while we were enjoying a four-month trip to France, we camped in Poitiers where my wife stepped down from the motorhome onto a raised tree root, breaking both ankles. After her recovery, and back on the road, the three steps up to the single beds were problematic for her, so we decided that, although we loved the Hymer, we would look for a motorhome with a level floor throughout and no steep steps up to the bed.
FINDING THE IDEAL
At the Birmingham NEC show in October 2017 we ordered a 3,500kg, 150bhp, automatic Rapido 8096dF Premium Edition, which came with modern light-coloured furniture.
On the day of delivery, and whilst the Rapido was being prepared, we reluctantly agreed to pay the balance by bank transfer before seeing
