Hunt for the red gas

We have two empty Calor Gas 3.9kg propane cylinders in our ’van and have been trying to swap them for full cylinders for very many weeks. I’ve tried all the local stockists plus many others around the country as I travel for work.

All the stockists say is ‘I keep ordering them but none ever arrive’ or ‘I’ve not had any for months’. I’ve also tried to swap one of my empty propane bottles for a 4.5kg butane cylinder, again without success.

I contacted Calor Gas, which didn’t reply. Our ‘van cannot take anything larger than the 3.9/4.5kg cylinders.

We normally stay at CLs and small sites without electric and also use our ’van to go out for the day or just an evening to sit somewhere nice and cook a meal. So, without any gas we’re unable to use our ’van. Can anyone explain why there are no small Calor Gas cylinder refills available and when they’ll be back in stock?

Colin Kennington

ED Colin later added: We stayed at a marina CL in Derbyshire last weekend and it had just received a big delivery from Calor, including the 3.9kg that we use. So, we managed to get one at last.

While we were away our neighbour called to say our house had been broken into. The police told us someone is watching properties in our area (north Lancs/south Cumbria) with campervans/ motorhomes on the drive and breaking in when the ’van is away. The burglars are thought to be after cash and jewellery – we don’t have any, but they still made a mess. Colin Kennington

After reading a recent letter regarding renewal of C1 driving licence rights after age 70, I felt I should reply. The author asked why he should have to reapply at age 70, having held the licence for 50 years, and what right did they have to take away his licence?

Quite frankly I was appalled by his letter, which takes no account of the fact that, at that age, he could be suffering
