Irambled on a few months ago in my column about how expensive it has become to build a VW from scratch these days, but let me get one thing straight here. I’ve only ever undertaken one full restoration – my current ’69 Westy project – so, while I know that costs have gone up across the board, I have no experience of the costs of building a traditional California Look car, except for hearing VW folklore.
