FARM JOBS WERE very much a family affair when Fanny Lumsden was growing up on 1200 hectares of mixed-crop and merino sheep country. “The whole tribe of us were very involved from a really young age, helping out with everything from lamb marking and shearing to harvest time,” Fanny remembers.
Fanny, 35, is the eldest of four siblings, followed by Anna, Tom and Lucinda. “We were all close and grew up doing everything together on the farm. We fought like cats and dogs, though – like all siblings! I think it would be weird if we didn’t!” she says. “We made our own fun, creating games among moving sheep or whatever was on the never-ending jobs list for the day. We’re still all really close and gravitate back together as much as we can, like little homing pigeons.”
