My country childhood

FOR MYF WARHURST, music was a way to learn about the world beyond the small country town where she grew up, and it ended up becoming a constant thread throughout her life. “When I was younger, music was a way of expressing emotions and feelings I didn’t have words for. It gave me a sense of where I was or wanted to be and it expanded my mind,” she says. “Music has always been a really joyous place for me and I feel lucky to have been surrounded by it.”

Myf (short for Myfanwy) was born in Portland, Victoria in 1973. Her family lived in the small Victorian town of Donald until she was eight, then moved to Red Cliffs, in northern Victoria, where her parents Eddie and Nancye, both art teachers, took up teaching positions at the local high school. Myf, who has three older brothers – Shaun, Andre and Kit – grew up surrounded by her immediate and extended family.
