MOST horse owners and equine vets are aware of the dangers of ragwort. It is poisonous for horses, causing liver disease, even when dry in hay and haylage. Horses tend to avoid it when it is fresh, but they can’t detect it in conserved forage. When liver disease is diagnosed, vets immediately consider ragwort as a possible cause.
