Symmetry mystery

I was surprised to read in Paul Ockenden’s article (see issue 334, p111) that FTTP from Openreach comes with different upload and download speeds. I am wondering why that is. Contributing editor Paul Ockenden replies: The cynic in me suspects the asymmetry of the Openreach-based fibre broadband offerings is to stop it cannibalising the company’s valuable leased line business. Newer players in the market have a much smaller leased line business, so don’t need this artificial protection. But I’m sure Openreach would disagree with this!
