YOU WILL NEED

■ Fabric A: 100x45cm – outer main and inner eyelet strip

■ Fabric B: 50x40cm – outer bottom

■ Fabric C: 100x35cm – lining

■ Vlieseline iron-on interfacing: 1m

■ Vlieseline Thermolam: 50cm

■ Cotton rope, 12mm diameter: 2m

■ Eyelets x4: 14mm

■ Basic sewing kit

■ Essex Yarn dyed Linen in Flax.

NOTES

■ Use a 1cm seam allowance.

■ If you want the bag to be firmer use a foam interfacing or a heavier weight fabric, e.g., canvas.

CUTTING OUT

Step one From the iron-on interfacing cut:
Outer Main Interfacing: two 48x28cm
Inner Eyelet Strip Interfacing: two 48x11cm
Outer Bottom Interfacing: two 48x18cm Step two From fabric A cut:
Outer Main: two 50x30cm
Inner Eyelet Strip: two 50x12cm Step three Press the iron-on interfacing pieces onto the wrong side (WS) of the corresponding main fabric A pieces according to manufacturer’s instructions, then cut the finished sections:
Outer Main: two 47x27cm
Inner Eyelet Strip: two 47x10cm Step four From fabric B cut:
Outer Bottom: two 50x20cm Step five Press the iron-on interfacing onto the WS of the corresponding main fabric B pieces, then cut the finished sections:
Outer Bottom: two 47x17cm Step six From fabric C cut:
Lining: two 47x34cm Step seven From Thermolam cut:
Interlining: two 47x42cm

MARKING THE EYELET HOLES

Step one Take one of the Outer Main pieces and draw a horizontal line across its 47cm width, 5cm down from the bottom edge. Mark the middle point on both the top edge of the fabric down to the 5cm line (23.5cm in from each side), then mark 9cm away from this middle point on the horizontal line – these are where the eyelets will be attached. Take one of the eyelets and place it on one of these crossed marks so that the cross is central inside the circular eyelet. Draw around the inside of the eyelet on these points.
