‘Fascinating’ talks at summer meeting
AVICULTURAL SOCIETY
THE first summer regional meeting of the Avicultural Society took place on July 17 at Hestercombe Gardens, near Taunton in Somerset. Initially aimed at members in the south west, the society was delighted that members travelled from as far as Cornwall, Gloucestershire and Kent for what was the first purely social event since 2019.
A fascinating programme of talks was arranged with presentations by three of the society’s council members: Laura Gardner, director of conservation of The Wildwood Trust on the reintroduction of Choughs to the Kent coast, to which the society had previously contributed funds; Daniel Cullen of Branchtide Birds who gave a fascinating, first-hand account of the recent release and reintroduction of Spix’s macaws in Brazil, which he had been privileged to observe and photograph; and Gary Ward, curator of birds at the Zoological Society of
