Little and often must be your rule
I have got a new puppy and was wondering how often I should be training it?
Fran says: First, don’t be in too much of a rush, let the puppy settle in and get used to its new surroundings before you even think about any kind of training. As to how much training you should be doing, little and often is a mantra to work by. You are far better doing 10 minutes every day than doing an hour once a week. A young dog has a limited concentration span and will quickly get tired if you try to do too much at once. And remember, if you are not in the right frame of mind don’t train, just have some time out with the dog.

Do I avoid that flash of flesh?
I notice that you and your friend Paul never wear face veils or gloves when shooting pigeons. I was told by a friend that a ‘flash of flesh‘ – that is, face or hands – would send pigeons scattering in all directions. Is that true?
Paul and I always try to situate our hides in such a way as to give us the maximum time to spot approaching birds and prepare for the shot. Then it is simply a question of keeping still, with our heads below the top of the hide. Once a pigeon
