esigner-maker Natalia Price-Cabrera and photographer and writer Chris Gatcum were living in East Sussex when they decided to relocate to the North Devon while Chris was the author of many books on photography and had published limited-edition prints. Last December, they combined forces to launch Clarence’s of Ilfracombe, a boutique homewares shop which showcases their creations and finds from hand-tailored lampshades to lamps made from old cameras, vintage jewellery and objects, and Chris’s ethereal photographic prints. A behatted pink flamingo draped in scarves welcomes shoppers into their eclectic world. ‘We’re both magpies and have accumulated a vast collection of vintage treasures over the years – these we edit down and display in the shop either as props or for sale,’ says Natalia, who is also running a series of Sunday craft workshops at the store this autumn.
