For the English market, Thornycroft had produced a single drive six wheeler complete with factory fitted table top which was designated as an MH/QR6 with the NS6 as an option once again. Marketed quite specifically as an Express Freighter and with a front axle set slightly further forward than the single drive ML models, the latter range was confusingly promoted as an Express Freighter in Australia.
With 139bhp (103.6kW) now on tap at 2,000rpm, along with a six speed overdrive Thornycroft gearbox and Eaton two speed axle as an option, (the Moss drive axle being standard), the truck held out some promise for increased sales of the Thornycroft marque in Australia.
John couldn’t recall exact figures of how many Mastiffs were sold, but Aboods Transport had been repeat buyers of Thornycrofts and bought at least two if not three for interstate duties with good success. Even with modest power on tap, Aboods considered the Mastiffs as good performers. John also recalled that the Abood brothers were very honest business men and excellent people to deal with. Well known for getting maximum life out of their truck purchases, they went on to modify their Mastiffs later on for local work, fitting them with other engines and multiple axles for their purposes.
