Dressed in sumptuous riding silks created by one of the Duchess of Cambridge’s favourite designers, Roksanda, an all-female line-up of 12 jockeys comes under starter’s orders at the Magnolia Cup at the glorious Goodwood Festival this week.
And riding alongside a former Great British Bake Off contestant, a gold medal-winning pentathlete, a cyber-crime expert and a dance teacher is a young woman who overcame childhood tragedy to take part in one of the most prestigious events in the racing calendar.
O’Meara Rusike, 24, is the first: “I’m so excited and proud. Winning the Magnolia Cup is one of my greatest goals, but whether I win, lose or draw, just taking part is amazing.
